I am blessed to have my 91 year old grandmother still with us, and only about 30 minutes away.
A few weeks ago I took my five year old over to her house, for a little visit.
We looked at my old sewing machine from when I was 4.
Explored the buttons and fabric scraps in the sewing room. My grandma is making a quilt skirt for my daughter, so they talked about quilting and chose a few more fabric pieces and where they should go.
Looked at photo albums from when I was little and generally had a great time. Then we took my grandma out to lunch.
I love being able to share her with my daughter, and seeing the two of them together was more fun than I could have imagined.
Sometimes babies and little kids have gotten in the way, it's been on my never-ending "to do" list for a few years, and finally I just did it. There is really no excuse for why it's taken so long for me to have this one-on-one, we see her often, but in a larger family setting.
Next time I'm bringing my son, and we can walk across the street and feed the ducks, a bit more "three year old boy".
Any extra special people in your life? How do you make sure to have special time with them?

ReplyDeleteShe's 91!!!! Oh. My. Word. She looks incredible, seriously amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat for your family.
I hope I make it to 91 and if I do I hope I look that great.
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents live four hours away. It makes it really difficult to visit them for the holidays but we have made special trips this year to visit them without the rest of the family there. I think that is the best thing. They love getting Noah all to themselves. I'm glad your little girl had a great time with your grandmother. Definitely something special.
What an extraordinary woman you gramma is.
