Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

At the Halloween party we went to this weekend (the owl cupcakes were a hit), there were some pretty awesome costumes, so I thought I'd share in case you are stuck for tonight.

Nope, we were not super creative, I was a butterfly, my daughter older daughter was a butterfly (matching her bedroom), my son was a fireman (for the second year in a row), the baby was a princess since that's all I had and my husband took the cake.

He went as Jack Abramoff.

See the suit, hat and money coming out of his pockets?

He could also have been Bernie Madoff, but the hat said "Abramoff" to me.

My other faves, although I'm sorry I don't have visuals:

Price is Right contestants (sailor, sorority girl, "kiss me Bob" girl)

Teen Wolf, complete with extra body "hair"

50 Shades of Grey. (Thank goodness for my summer reading list!) He just pinned 50 paint chips in various shades of grey to his black shirt, super easy.

What are you (or your kids) dressing up as?

Rainbow Family Handprints

This is similar to my Thanksgiving Turkey Handprints, but I made it work with our entire family.

It's *possible* that I made baby footprints all over the place with my first, and then never did it again.

Oops.

So to preserve those adorable baby hands (and the middle-child and older-child hands as well), I cut them all out.

I even traced my hand and my husband's so when they are stacked on top of each other, you can see our little family composition.

I used Mod Podge dots so there is a bit of space between each hand. And we all know that I'm in love with Ikea frames:)

Owl Cupcakes

Perfect halloween treats, owl cupcakes
I think the how-to on these is pretty self explanatory.

Perfect halloween treats, owl cupcakes

I did doctor-up the box mix by adding vanilla extract and a bit of peppermint extract so they tasted less "from a box" and bit more "special holiday".

Then I used both original and special Halloween orange centered Oreos.

I did learn by trial an error that you just have to twist and pull the sides apart, so the cream will only stick to one side, and you'll be left with an "extra" plain cookie side.

I even tried using a hot knife, but they wouldn't split nicely for me.

Followed by M&M's for the eyes and noses.

This was the prefect part to involve the kiddos in.

When we ran out of Oreo's we just went free form with the M&M's.

I took them to a friend's Halloween party, transporting them i a cupcake carrier that had been waiting for me just for this very purpose!

They looked awesome on the cupcake stand, all ready to be eaten.

Harvest Decor (and Breakfast) on the Deck

Free because I had these foam turkeys and pumpkins left over from last year.

Fun, because it kept my kids occupied for half an hour sticking autumn shapes on.

And a part of this series, because sometimes, it's a good idea to bring your life outside, even when it's no longer the middle of summer.

I may not be buying any new accessories for our deck until next summer (husband- don't quote me on that one), but I'm happy to bring a little harvest spirit outside:)
