Strawberry Shortcake

This is less of a recipe and more of a come-on-over-and-lick-your-screen kind of post. As I might have mentioned, summer means fruit for me. No, that doesn't describe it enough, summer = fruit. Mostly berries and stone fruits. I knew I had hit my ideal vision of summer when our family laid out a picnic blanket at a park after going to the Temescal Farmer's Market, and we just sat there eating cherries. It was the pure embodiment of summer.

On Mother's Day my sister and brother-in-law came over to babysit while my husband and I went out for a fundraiser at our daughter's new school. Stop, I'm just saying I can't believe she's big enough for kindergarten in the fall, it's cah-razy! OK, so they wanted to plan for success and brought over strawberry shortcake making supplies (I had made the dinner). This is my son's new favorite dessert and I understand why. I bought the shortcakes from Trader Joe's, the whipped the heavy cream myself, adding just enough powdered sugar for sweetness, then top with sliced strawberries.

Perfect!
