Back from Paradise

So you know how last week was pretty much all about food? As I mentioned before, it would be so easy for this blog to just slide into a diary of what we eat, since I do cook every.single.day.

Except when I don't have to.

Like on vacation.

We had the amazing opportunity to go to Hawaii for a wedding/family vacation. So. much. fun.

Although it's not really a vaction when you bring kids, it's a trip. Thankfully we took my mom and stepdad and my sister and her husband so the 6:3, (or 2:1 if you are mathy) ratio worked out for us. Although as the "actual" parent, I still never got to sit still or read a book unless I was trapped in our room while someone napped!

We stayed at the Westin Kaanapali Villas, which is a timeshare resort, so we had a kitchen and everything, even though I adamantly refused to cook!

My son is the easiest flyer we have. He literally just sat in his seat for the entire 5 hour flight. Put some Dora shows on an ipad and give him snack and he's good to go.

The same can not be said of my older daughter and the baby. We didn't get a seat for the baby so for an hour I was kicked out of my seat so that she could be out of our arms for a bit. For a baby who wanted to be held all-the-freaking-time when she was an infant, she really needs her own space now.

Every afternoon at 4pm you could feed the Koi in the fish pond.

My son refused to pose for this picture, so it's just me and my girls:)

Oh look, there he is. We borrowed those floatie-chairs from another family and we bought the turtle floatie for my son. There he is laying on me while I sip a bloody mary.

Um, can you tell from this picture that I'm a *bit* obsessed with sun safety? I'm wearing a long sleeve sun shirt, sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen with an spf 50. My kids are also in long sleeve swim suits and hats. Then my sister and brother in law look like normal vacation-goers.

Gratuitous shot of the baby in her flower cover up.

Our whole family. I didn't get the memo to wear orange. And the kids are exhausted, they are almost sleeping standing up.

Our shirts are from Coolibar, they sell tons of sun protective clothing, and I'm loving all of it.

My sister and her husband. They didn't have a "real" honeymoon when they married, so other than the part where they helped with our kids, this was like a honeymoon for them.

Then we went to the wedding. It was at Haiku Mill, on the other side of the island (Maui) from the resort, but the space was beautiful. Sorry I didn't take any pictures of it, but I was too busy tasting the three signature cocktails and deciding on my favorite one.

My sister and I wound up in dresses that were almost the same color, and it wasn't planned. Go figure.

Here we are with our mom.

And with the husbands...

  5. Hawaii is so beautiful. I vacationed there (Oahu) a few years ago. If you ever go back I highly recommend a helicopter tour. The helicopter pilots can take you way up into the mountains to see volcanos and hidden waterfalls.

  11. Looks like you guys had a great time Jessica! Loosing your seat is better then crying for five hours though, right? LOL =) Can't blame you for being careful with the sun, and really respect how careful you are with the kids. I used to DIP Austin in sunscreen, make him wear a hat and sunglasses, and then, often a little tee shirt too. I can say, my son never had a sunburn =) The drinks look super, y'all looked great! Glad you had such a wonderful time.

  12. Beautiful! Is that the Hilton resort? It looks like where we stayed in Hawaii. I get a little over protective with the sun too.

  20. Sounds like SO much fun! We have a vacation planned next week, and I'm thinking I need to stop referring to it as a vacation and start calling it a "trip." To keep my expectations realistic. :)

  21. Looks like a wonderful vacation! I think you are so smart for wearing the sun gear....we wear it too....especially for those long days at the beach/pool. Without them I found that the kids would always end up with burned shoulers & neck! So glad you have a chance to get away and relax girl! Angie xo

  25. Having gotten married in Maui (10+ years ago) I'm kind of obsessed with destination weddings so I occasionally check out Maui photographers' blogs. The Haiku Mill is OUTSTANDINGLY BEAUTIFUL. So lucky that you got to go to a wedding there.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I love hearing what you have to say! Sometimes I'm busy chasing after the three kids who can walk, or feeding the baby, but I promise, at some point I'll get back to you and head over to your blog (if you have one) to leave you a comment too:)
