Except when I don't have to.
Like on vacation.
We had the amazing opportunity to go to Hawaii for a wedding/family vacation. So. much. fun.
Although it's not really a vaction when you bring kids, it's a trip. Thankfully we took my mom and stepdad and my sister and her husband so the 6:3, (or 2:1 if you are mathy) ratio worked out for us. Although as the "actual" parent, I still never got to sit still or read a book unless I was trapped in our room while someone napped!
We stayed at the Westin Kaanapali Villas, which is a timeshare resort, so we had a kitchen and everything, even though I adamantly refused to cook!
My son is the easiest flyer we have. He literally just sat in his seat for the entire 5 hour flight. Put some Dora shows on an ipad and give him snack and he's good to go.
The same can not be said of my older daughter and the baby. We didn't get a seat for the baby so for an hour I was kicked out of my seat so that she could be out of our arms for a bit. For a baby who wanted to be held all-the-freaking-time when she was an infant, she really needs her own space now.
Every afternoon at 4pm you could feed the Koi in the fish pond.
My son refused to pose for this picture, so it's just me and my girls:)
Oh look, there he is. We borrowed those floatie-chairs from another family and we bought the turtle floatie for my son. There he is laying on me while I sip a bloody mary.
Um, can you tell from this picture that I'm a *bit* obsessed with sun safety? I'm wearing a long sleeve sun shirt, sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen with an spf 50. My kids are also in long sleeve swim suits and hats. Then my sister and brother in law look like normal vacation-goers.
Gratuitous shot of the baby in her flower cover up.
Our whole family. I didn't get the memo to wear orange. And the kids are exhausted, they are almost sleeping standing up.
Our shirts are from Coolibar, they sell tons of sun protective clothing, and I'm loving all of it.
My sister and her husband. They didn't have a "real" honeymoon when they married, so other than the part where they helped with our kids, this was like a honeymoon for them.
Then we went to the wedding. It was at Haiku Mill, on the other side of the island (Maui) from the resort, but the space was beautiful. Sorry I didn't take any pictures of it, but I was too busy tasting the three signature cocktails and deciding on my favorite one.
My sister and I wound up in dresses that were almost the same color, and it wasn't planned. Go figure.
Here we are with our mom.
And with the husbands...
Jessica

ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous! I haven't been but hope to some day. Cute pictures! looks like such a pretty resort.
ReplyDeleteFun pictures. We love Hawaii! I know just wear you stayed we stayed at their sister hotel on Maui last summer.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun! Just a tad jealous. Sun safety is no joke. :)
ReplyDeleteHawaii is so beautiful. I vacationed there (Oahu) a few years ago. If you ever go back I highly recommend a helicopter tour. The helicopter pilots can take you way up into the mountains to see volcanos and hidden waterfalls.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute photos! Looks like a blast. xx
ReplyDeleteWelcome home! It is so fun to get away...but always feels good to be home again! Love that shot on the plane...boy do I remember those days!
ReplyDeleteSounds like the trip was a success! Great photos and I'm digging those sun shirts...off to check them out! Welcome home!
ReplyDeletegorgeous photos! you look awesome in that red/coral dress!
ReplyDeleteIt is so fun to see the "real life" side of your family! I cannot imagine traveling with that many little ones! You guys are brave! And it looks like you had some time to enjoy and relax during naps at least! Yayy for you! :)

Looks like you guys had a great time Jessica! Loosing your seat is better then crying for five hours though, right? LOL =) Can't blame you for being careful with the sun, and really respect how careful you are with the kids. I used to DIP Austin in sunscreen, make him wear a hat and sunglasses, and then, often a little tee shirt too. I can say, my son never had a sunburn =) The drinks look super, y'all looked great! Glad you had such a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Is that the Hilton resort? It looks like where we stayed in Hawaii. I get a little over protective with the sun too.
ReplyDeleteJudging by your smile Jessica, it looks like you had a fun time! Glad you had an opportunity to float in the pool with a bevvie!! Your dress is so pretty great choice for a tropical wedding! Have a great week :) Heather
ReplyDeleteSo what one was it?
ReplyDeleteSignature cocktail #1, #2 or #3?
~Bliss~
I know something about flying with children...our trips to Italy to see my family are always an adventure! ...or a nightmare...we are totally outnumbered with a 4yr old, a 2yr old and baby! Looks like you guys had fun!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great trip! I live in Maui and my husband works right around the corner from the Westin.
ReplyDeleteHow fun...looks like you had a blast! You ladies look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are gorgeous! Looks like your guys had a great time! :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! Looks like you had a great time despite the long sleeves. ;) tee hee
ReplyDeleteSounds like SO much fun! We have a vacation planned next week, and I'm thinking I need to stop referring to it as a vacation and start calling it a "trip." To keep my expectations realistic. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful vacation! I think you are so smart for wearing the sun gear....we wear it too....especially for those long days at the beach/pool. Without them I found that the kids would always end up with burned shoulers & neck! So glad you have a chance to get away and relax girl! Angie xo
ReplyDeleteI love Hawaii! We went there for our honeymoon a few years ago and had the most amazing time. Your family is too cute in your sun-protective swimwear!
ReplyDeleteLove Maui; I lived in Haiku in the 80's (whoops, I'm dating myself!) Good job with the sun protection!
ReplyDeleteAloha!
ReplyDeleteI adore Hawaii and can't wait to go back!
Looks like your and your fabulous family had an amazing time (minus the plane ride)!

Having gotten married in Maui (10+ years ago) I'm kind of obsessed with destination weddings so I occasionally check out Maui photographers' blogs. The Haiku Mill is OUTSTANDINGLY BEAUTIFUL. So lucky that you got to go to a wedding there.
ReplyDeleteSounds like an amazing trip...I LOVE Hawaii!!
ReplyDeleteOoooo I want to go to Hawaii! Awards to you for doing it with little ones!
