Training Bougainvillea along a railing

Today, I've finally succumbed to my friend Kerry's house stalking so I'm guest posting on her site, House TalkN today. Stop on by, I might even offer you a glass of wine for your troubles!

Those new bougainvillea plants were just a little too stuck-up for our liking. So one morning my wonderful husband snipped the ties that held the vines to their stakes, and he "trained" them to the sides.

We ordered floral ties off of Amazon and just loosely tied the vines (branches?) to our deck railing.

He wove them in and out of the railings a bit, hoping to buffer them from the wind and anchor them enough to the house that they stay there for more than one season, fingers crossed!

  5. So pretty Jessica. I love this stuff. Loads of it in California, I grew up with the stuff. Not so much here in Oregon. It's going to look so lush when it gets going! ENJOY =)

  8. I am in the Bay Area too (East Bay) and have been hesitant to put in Bougainvillea because it is so damp, I worry they won't do well.. Have you had trouble growing them? We used to have them in San Diego but it was a little more arid there..

I have a fence that is screaming for color and coverage but I wasn't sure if it would be futile planing bougainvillea?

  12. That looks a lot easier than the kind of training I am used to...potty training :). I can't wait to see what it looks like as the summer progresses.

  13. Hello Jessica: My first time to your blog, and I love bouganvilla! It's a little too cold where I live for it to grow, so I will have to admire yours from afar. Take care, and have a great week!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I love hearing what you have to say! Sometimes I'm busy chasing after the three kids who can walk, or feeding the baby, but I promise, at some point I'll get back to you and head over to your blog (if you have one) to leave you a comment too:)
