Originally the rug we bought for the mudroom was meant to run from door-to-door. That way whether you entered from the garage (on the left) or outside (on the right) you could still wipe your feet off. Except that the door from the garage doesn't have a built up sill so the door gets stuck on the rug.
That's why we had turned the rug and it ran into the room, way less practical.
Finally we just trimmed the rug with a pair of utility scissors, and ta da! The rug runs door-to-door, and we just need to step in a few feet to wipe our feet off, no problem.
The extra scrap winds up fitting perfectly in front of our upstairs front door. We are built into a hill, so yes, we do have two front doors.
I'm still not totally sold on the rug in front of the formal front door, not sure if it looks too utility up there, or if it blends in well enough with the floors to make it work. What do you think?
Jessica

the rug in the mudroom is perfect and does its job! for the front door i can see you using something more fun with a pop of color. :)
ReplyDeleteget some paint and a stencil and paint a pattern in white on the rug to dress it up, love the other rug
ReplyDeleteI think it looks fine, and agree with Kelley that you could stencil it dress it up. Maybe use a pattern in the same colors as your walls to help it blend it. Or do something bold to make it stand out!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I think something with a pop of color would look great for the front door.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely try a stencil!
ReplyDeleteI vote to dress up the one at the front door. Something with color would be great!
ReplyDeleteLooks like everyone is going with the stencil idea. Which sounds fun. And you can pick one of the fun pops of color you use in your home too ...
ReplyDelete:)

A stencil would add interest to the texture or attach a border to make it stand out somewhat.
