The evening of our son's construction machine birthday party (come back tomorrow for all the details) there was a solar eclipse.
People. A SOLAR eclipse.
Oops, sorry for yelling, but it was darn cool.
So what did we do? We just had our party outside anyway, but since this was a 3 year old's party everyone was gone by 6pm, that's how we roll.
Anyway, with all of our elementary school knowledge and way too many Ivy League degrees (I kid you not, between four of us, I think we had six. Or more if you count Stanford) we made a pinhole camera.
We took a box lid from one of the birthday presents (thanks Jess!) we poked a hole with the tip of a ballpoint pen, then held it away from the opposite side of the box to see the solar eclipse projected onto it!
So cool.
See that sliver? That's the sun!
Jessica

Wow that's awesome!
I must say that your kids have the coolest mom!
That is what my dad did too. He called to see if we were watching, but it was overcast, we couldn't see a thing!
Glad the kids had a fun time =)
Oh man this brings back memories of science class! Well done! :)
I remember making these in junior high. How fun!!
Fun memories! It was dark here, so we missed it...sniff.
What a great picture of the sun! Love that you used the lid from a birthday gift...I am sure you had plenty of those on hand. Can't wait to see the party details!
How cool of you to take the time to make a pin-hole camera! We used to make these with our 4Hers in the area....my husband used to work for Kodak and would teach photography.
Great job...
Nancy
