As you saw with our art project, our master bedroom is sorely in need of some accessorizing. Here is what it looks like when you walk in.
The room isn't too big, which is good. I hate bedrooms that are cavernous, what are they trying to do with that? More space doesn't make it feel cozy, and an increase in the air volume in the room won't make it any more soundproof. Ours is about 14' by 19', just right.
Here is a reminder of the new art that we hung in the room.
I did a quick bedding switch to go along with the art above the bed. We needed more color.
The art over the dresser was done by my husband during a painting class he took in graduate school. If you count the cost of tuition, that is by far the most expensive piece of art we own:)
I'm totally in love with it. I adore the mix of colors, the movement, and up close you can see the brushstrokes, very Impressionist-ic. The room also has a lovely deck, where one day, when the baby is sleeping in her own room, we will go out on and have a glass of wine together. Or we will just have the wine in front of the TV in the living room like normal people.
Nate Berkus, a designer extraordinaire, always says that a bedroom needs a place to sit. So I got the chaise you see in the corner. It's from Wisteria, all weathered wood and natural linen, very right now, so I'm hoping it doesn't go out of style too soon. The pillow is from HomeGoods.
The bed is from Restoration Hardware a few years ago, the Atwood before they went all weathered-wood and french-industrial on me. Then I found the nightstands which match perfectly from Z Gallerie when they were discontinued. Oh, and the pendant lamp was from Overstock, a total knockoff of the Restoration Hardware one for 75% less. Overstock, or O.co as it is now known, I love you.

ReplyDeleteI love the changes you made - I totally agree on the large bedroom thing...loved your feature today!
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom is beautiful Jessica! I love the new artwork and the pillows are fantastic! How about a tray with a collection of coloured glass vases and objects for the dresser? Just a thought! :) Your husband's artwork fits beautifully in the room! Angie xo
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous! The pillows. The canvas art work. But I LOVE the pictures over the bed. Did you take them yourself? I'm thinking of doing something like that over our bed since our quilt is gray and yellow.
ReplyDeleteXO

Just found your blog and I love it! What a beautiful home you have. I have that same drum shade from Overstock that I also bought a few years ago - trying to figure out the best spot for it in our new home in Seattle and hadn't thought about the bedroom so thank for the idea. That art is great too - well done by your husband!
ReplyDeleteHi Jessica, just want to tell you I'm a new follower and totally in love with your home!! It's gorgeous!! (Found you from Emily Clark's site). I am dreaming of the day when my husband and I can build our dream house. I have the whole thing laid out in my head. (I'm not an architect though, so I'm sure there's a lot of problems with it- but I love it!) Anyways just wanted to say hi before I head back to drool over more of your pictures. Your kitchen is so pretty I could cry- I'd never get any cooking done because I'd just be staring around with a smile on my face. :)
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and am so happy I did. You have a lovely home. I'm looking forward to reading more about it.
ReplyDeleteLove the new shams! They add a lot of happiness to your space! Your husband's art is gorgeous as well!
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom is so beautiful! I'd love to sit out on that balcony and have a glass of wine!
ReplyDeleteLove the wall color in your bedroom and the pops of yellow in the artwork above the bed! Also love the chaise and bright new pillows :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun to see your amazing feature at Emily Clark! Congrats and so well-deserved ...
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm with you about oversized bedrooms. More space equals more space to clean and more space to clutter! Plus, the majority of the time I'm in the bedroom I either have my eyes closed -- or I can barely see. I'm blind as a bat with out my contacts (I've been wearing glasses since I was 5).
:)

The updated bedding is beautiful, and I love the art your husband made! Our bedroom is cavernous, and it almost made my husband want to skip buying this house. Now it's just this space that I have to fill... eventually... with something.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful room!!! I really love the paint color and the artwork above your bed. Such a great space. I completely agree about a master not feeling that comfy when it's too big.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day!
Congrats on the feature! LOVE the wall color.
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS!!! I'd love it if you'd share this with my readers on our link party! I know my readers would love it!

I would also love to know where you bought the pillows!! They are awesome!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty - I love the yellow & orange accents and that chaise is perfect (although at my house it would be covered with clothes). Thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeleteHi! I stopped over from Emily's sharing of your house tour. Adorable! I'm also a former Ivy turned housewife, but a non-mom. I'm so glad I found your blog - I'll be reading!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to stumble upon this post! I'm about to paint our bedroom and living room in BM "Lakeside Cabin" which is similar to yours. My husband has made me question whether it is too "dark" since he is used to all white walls. I'm inspired and can't wait to do it. THANK YOU for sharing : )
ReplyDeletei agree with a cozier bedroom. well appointed walk-ins take the need for dressers out of our bedroom. now it's lovely and restful. we have this alcove suite we're still not sure what to do with. in retrospect, i should have had the builders make it a large balcony.
