A grown up birthday party

Two days after my official birthday, with my older two kids away (thanks Mom!), I threw myself an adult birthday party. The baby was upstairs sleeping, while 16 friends came over and enjoyed champagne, food, and dessert. I bought most of the food from a specialty market to keep everything extra easy for me. The only thing I made was smoked salmon deviled eggs, which are just deviled eggs with smoked salmon in them, so yummy, and they were all gone before the end of the night.

These are Trader Joe's frozen macarons. I had initially ripped out a recipe for making them at home, but decided that day to just buy them and make my life easier. It was a party after all. And we still had to clean up.

I love a good cheese plate. I even labeled each cheese by using place cards.

Scotch for the boys.

Champagne for everyone.

I love that we used our candelabras which haven't seen use in five years. Although, it looks a bit     Halloween-y in this picture.

Store bought Curry Chicken Salad in mini martini glasses.

Chicken liver mousse, I'm still swooning, it was that good.

The smoked salmon deviled eggs.

And like any good party, here are the empty bottles at the end of the night.

  1. Happy Belated Birthday! Sounds like you had a wonderful party. The chicken curry salad looks delicious. I saw some mini martini glasses the other day at Pier 1 and have been thinking of ways I could use them. This would be a great way!

  12. The true success of any party is the amount of empty bottles! Even though having leftovers that guests bring is always a plus too! ;)

  27. Jessica,

Some great buffet serving ideas here ... I really like the idea of the mini-martini glasses for the chicken salad ... talk about an upscale! I can see how wonderfully the kitchen island you designed works for an informal gathering of friends to sip, munch, and mingle ... great circulation flow. Happy be-lated birthday to a fellow early April girl :)

  33. Happy belated! Your spread looks lovely...now I'm craving smoked salmon deviled eggs.

It goes to show, presentation is key. Store-bough goodies dolled up in a martini glass totally work!

    I didn't know TJ's had macaroons {those typically are GF}...hmmm.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I love hearing what you have to say! Sometimes I'm busy chasing after the three kids who can walk, or feeding the baby, but I promise, at some point I'll get back to you and head over to your blog (if you have one) to leave you a comment too:)
