OK, back to my regularly scheduled post. This cabinet is a Jack-of-all-trades as far as furniture and family organization is concerned. Conveniently located between the kitchen and the dining room, we pass it a million times each day.
I needed a place to do my daughter's hair if it wasn't done before we come downstairs for breakfast. Plus, it had to hold all those last minute items that are so crucial to keeping the morning running smoothly: sunscreen (stick, cream and spray), sunglasses, hats, hair accessories, cameras, the iPad...
We managed to keep the drawers neat for a week or two then they turned into this:
The top drawer is overrun by my daughter's hair accessories and the bottom drawer seems to be home to every summer hat we own in addition to 3 boxes of tissues. A quick afternoon project was in order to transform the space into this:
Cute boxes from the dollar aisle at Target.
Plus the red polka dot basket that just appeared.

I love the dollar bins at Target! I have the bins with black on the outside and yellow on the inside. It's amazing how a simple organizational fix can make all the difference in the world.
ReplyDeletei love it- pretty and organized and love the colors!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh organization! Makes me so happy!
ReplyDeleteLooks great, Jessica. The little changes really make a difference.
ReplyDeletewish i was as organized as you!! Stopped by remodelaholic and saw your bath feature- gorgeous!!! where in the world do you live to have such gorgeous hillside views? Laura
ReplyDeleteHaving a catch all is so necessary at our house, and I've noticed the older us and our kids get the bigger the junk drawer needed! I still find hair pretties from my girls and they have not been wearing them for like 15 years.

I like the idea of having a spot to check yourself before leaving the house. I have one at the top of our stairs but someday it may work better to create a little area like yours in our entry way. This post was also a great reminder for me to go stock up on sun screen. It looks like the beautiful weather is here to stay!
ReplyDeleteOh I love to finally get things organized if feels so good! Congrats on the feature, that's exciting!!
ReplyDeleteI love those baskets! They are so cute!
ReplyDeleteLooks darling. The red and aqua are so happy!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the feature Jessica and loving those bins. Those would look perfect in my pantry.
ReplyDeleteToo funny - my girls are 12 and I still do their hair in the morning. They have a head full of curls that is impossible to comb so I have a stash of detangler and combs ready and waiting in my kitchen drawer! Love your organized space - after all - it's all about the hair!
ReplyDeleteFab feature at Remodelaholic too! Your bath rocks!
Kelly
What a great idea and those Target boxes are sweet! Hope my target has some!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, those boxes were in the dollar bin? When you are done organizing your house (which you seem to be doing so well), I could use some help over here :)
