The Guest Room

We are blessed to live near my family, so the guest room isn't really for anyone on my side of the family. I'm very close to my sister, so when I needed a new blog design (that free one could only last so long) I called her right up. She is a website and graphic designer, JenBlu, so that's who I have to thank for the spiffy (I promised not to use that word, but there it is) new header, pretty background, and all the changes.

My sister and her husband (hi! I know you are reading this) live a few miles away, so even though I've tried to convince them to stay over, they have politely declined. I think they know that it would mean our daughter racing into their room at 6am instead of ours. This is one of those rooms that we furnished right when we moved in with things we already had and haven't touched it since.

As I've mentioned, we moved 3 days before our son's 2nd birthday party, which meant that my mother-in-law was also visiting for the combined giant move and party week. She is straight from heaven, given that she was OK with that:) For the previous 4 years, when we lived in a little 2 bedroom bungalow, she would stay at a local hotel during her visits. Thank goodness we now have a guest room for her (and other guests) to stay in. Nothing can compare to an extra hour's sleep; our daughter is up at 6am, when she decides to visit Grammy's room first, then get us at 7am.

This might also explain why there is a framed portrait of said daughter on the nightstand, just a nice reminder of why Grammy visits every other month.

The bed and nightstand are our old bedroom set from Z Gallerie. Lamps from Pottery Barn, trays we've picked up in our travels. The beach prints over the bed are actually made of vinyl, from the clearance area at HomeGoods. Drum Pendant from Shades of Light. Curtains from our old house (can you tell that this house has MUCH higher ceilings:) from Pottery Barn. The bathroom is done in green glass tile with Calcutta Oro counters (as in the kitchen). Sconces and faucets from Restoration Hardware.

I am sure your mother-in-law loves staying in this room. It"s like a four star hotel room... especially with that bathroom. I love the green tile! If our house wasn't so old I would love to hang beautiful light fixtures in our bedrooms but we really need the fans for extra circulation.
